What is cloud?

I read an interesting survey somewhere on the net saying that 40% of American adults believe cloud services will take a hit during thunderstorm/tornado season.

The term “cloud” typically refers to the practice of using remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than relying on a local server or personal computer. This allows users to access information and services from anywhere with an internet connection, rather than being tied to a specific device or location. All these resources are “virtualized” resources. Now, “virtualized” being the key here. We’ll discuss more on virtualization later.

Cloud computing typically involves a range of services, including storage, processing, networking, and software applications, all of which can be accessed and managed through a web browser or mobile app. This can be especially useful for businesses or organizations that need to manage large amounts of data or process complex tasks, as cloud services can provide scalability and flexibility without requiring expensive hardware or dedicated IT staff.

Some of the most popular cloud computing providers include Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, although there are many other providers and services available as well.

So to sum up, cloud is nothing but storage, network and compute resources “virtualized” and available for the end user to access over the internet.
